Take the Plunge...
There is plenty to keep the diver busy here on Eleuthera (map). The Devil's Backbone between Spanish Wells and Harbour Island has many wrecks for divers to explore. The razor-sharp reefs to the north have downed many vessels and created an awesome dive site to explore. A diving must-see is the Ocean Blue Hole, located near Rock Sound. At first glance, it appears to be a tranquil inland pond, but legend has it that the Ocean Blue Hole is bottomless. Even Jacques Cousteau found no connection to the ocean during experiments.

Sea life abounds at Current Cut. This fast drift dive carries divers through a passage at approximately 10 knots with the tide. Depths range from 35 - 60 feet. This is an exciting and colorful journey for the more experienced divers.

The rarest of all scuba sites is a train wreck on the Devil's Backbone. This Civil War train was captured from the Union by the Confederacy, and then sold to a Cuban sugar plantation. In 1865, It plunged from a barge which struck the Devil's Backbone on its was to Havana. The locomotive's remains are a diving and snorkeling haven. Depth range from 10 - 15 feet and its length is about 60 feet. Many colorful forms of sea life can be seen here.
